Excerpt from "Bad Boys", an ESPN's "30 for 30" documentary that I helped produce and edit. The series won an Emmy in 2015, with "Bad Boys" headlining the submission. This film also won a Clio Award, a NAACP Image Award, and topped the Nielsen Twitter activity rankings on the night of its premiere. This scene represents the end of the Bad Boys era for the Detroit Pistons, and also solidified their place in basketball history.
In 2010, "Once Brothers" was one of the first films to debut on ESPN's Peabody Award winning, and Primetime Emmy nominated "30 for 30" documentary series. It tells the story of Vlade Divac and Drazen Petrovic, teammates and countrymen from the former Yugoslavia, whose lifelong friendship was torn apart by Civil War at the height of their personal and professional success. I began the project as a production assistant, but was ultimately credited as an associate producer for my dedication to the narrative, which included unearthing archival footage essential to the storyline.
I was a producer and editor on "The Doctor", a documentary airing on NBATV chronicling the life and career of Julius "DR. J" Erving. Dr. J's athletic feats were the stuff of legend, and he did it all with a style that transcended the game. "The Doctor" won the 2014 Sports Emmy for Most Outstanding Documentary.
"Clutch City" is a documentary produced by NBA Entertainment specifically for NBATV. It chronicles the success of the Houston Rockets, who won back-to-back NBA championships in the 1990's, led by the prototype power forward Hakeem Olajuwon and his coach, Rudy Tomjanovich. This excerpt tells the story of "The Punch", which altered the course of Tomjanovich's life when he played for the Rockets in the 1970s.
"The Association" is NBA Entertainment's marquee docu-reality series that showcases behind-the-scenes access with teams during the course of an NBA season. I wrote, produced and edited this episode, which details the devastating departure and triumphant return of Cleveland's favorite son, LeBron James.
"Centers of the Universe: Shaq and Yao" represents a pivotal moment for NBA Entertainment. It was the company's first production for Tencent, the NBA's media partner in China. "Centers" details the rivalry and friendship of Shaquille O'Neal and Yao Ming, larger-than-life icons from opposite sides of the planet. The program aired on China's national broadcasting network CCTV with incredible success. I directed this show, created its novel, graphic look, and edited the narrative. "Centers" has helped strengthen the NBA's foothold in one of the world's biggest markets.
"Centers of the Universe 2: DeAndre and Yao", is the second installment in a franchise that I helped create. It represents the evolution of a popular and identifiable brand for the NBA in China. The format was updated for a modern audience; instead of a 30 minute show, "Centers 2" was delivered as a series of 6 digital vignettes, intended to encourage NBA fans in China to cast their All Star votes for LA Clippers Center, DeAndre Jordan. It has also been released domestically on NBA social platforms and NBA.com/Clippers.
An excerpt from "Revealed", a digital documentary series that features in-depth, first person storytelling. I was assistant director, shooter, producer and editor on the project. For this installment, we traveled with Caron Butler back to his hometown of Racine, Wisconsin. A former gang member, Caron reformed his life through basketball and family, and now serves as a positive influence in the community that helped shape his character.
